On November 7th, first-year students from the Faculty of Agriculture had the opportunity to visit the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) at the University of Jaffna. The session was led by Prof. S. Shivany, Director of CGEE, who delivered an insightful presentation on “Gender Equity and Equality in the Agriculture Sector.”
This interactive session focused on raising awareness about critical issues such as Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), its root causes, and the formal complaint mechanisms available for victims. Prof. Shivany also familiarized students with the UGC’s online portal for reporting and guidance, while emphasizing the significance of embracing diversity and promoting inclusive practices within the agricultural field.
The event highlighted the role of the CGEE in advocacy and outreach, encouraging students to become active contributors to a more equitable and respectful academic and professional environment.
